DMA host industry debate on increasing postal prices

Yesterday’s DMA event saw a series of presentations from Royal Mail, Zero VAT, TNT Post and ONEPOST discussing the hot topic of increasing postal prices.

The “lighter touch” regulation approach from Ofcom, having taken over from Postcomm earlier this year, is evident in the decision documentation published on Tuesday.

Simplifying product specifications was the theme from Royal Mail – identifying areas for improvement from the key attributes of format, speed, volume, sortation, machine ability and containerisation.

With VAT set to be included on bulk mail products from 2nd April – but not yet on postal products under price control (universal service and downstream access letters/large letters) Bath based Zero VAT highlighted the risk for suppliers offering ‘single source’ propositions.

After coffee, the afternoon concluded with discussions from TNT Post – focusing on innovation and further end-to-end delivery trials – and ONEPOST.  Our MD Graham Cooper emphasised that when it comes to postal solutions “one size doesn’t fit all”.
